The University of Cincinnati's Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our team at the Center for Lipid and Atherosclerosis Studies (CLAS). As a leading institution in medical research, we are committed to advancing the understanding of lipid metabolism and its role in cardiovascular disease.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct research experiments in lipoprotein metabolism, focusing on the structure, composition, and function of high-density lipoproteins (HDL) and triglyceride-rich lipoproteins.
- Analyze data and develop new ideas to promote current research, with a focus on defining how proteins work together on the surface of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins to combat hypertriglyceridemia in cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
- Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts, and presentations of research results, with a focus on publishing in scientific journals and presenting at conferences.
- Participate in manuscript writing, grant writing, and other research-related activities, as needed.
- Stay up-to-date with developments in the field, maintaining and enhancing professional expertise through training and professional development opportunities.
- May teach techniques to others, train, and mentor junior research staff, as needed.
- Doctoral degree in the appropriate field or discipline, or the recognized terminal degree.
- In-depth knowledge of protein structural biology, including experimental methods for determining protein structure, such as X-ray crystallography, NMR, chemical cross-linking, cryo-EM, etc.
- Understanding of protein modeling and simulation.
- Additional qualifications considered: experience with specialized software programs, such as PyMol, Chimera, and others.
