  • Participate in the Student Life Leadership Collaborative, focusing on the development of student leadership.
  • Manage and administer outdoor education and leadership programming that is inclusive and supportive of all students.
  • Establish and implement risk management standards and serve as the chief risk management officer for all OEL operations.
  • Ensure programs comply with industry standards, federal and state regulations, and land management permits.
  • Supervise student employees, including assistants and trip leaders, and manage any program subcontractors.
  • Select and procure equipment while negotiating favorable pricing with suppliers.
Programming Responsibilities
  • Lead or co-facilitate approximately 18-20 field courses/trips annually that appeal to students of diverse identities and experiences, including weekday activities, weekend excursions, alternate spring break, and summer programs.
  • Collaborate with students, faculty, and staff to deliver inclusive campus-wide programming that fosters a sense of belonging.
  • Oversee the operations of the climbing/bouldering wall, gear/pack out room, and bike/ski shop.
  • Advise student groups with outdoor interests, such as the Canoe Team and Climbing Wall Club.
  • Develop or approve course curriculum and guidelines for all activities offered by OEL.
Qualifications:
Education
  • Master's Degree in outdoor education, recreation, or a related field; at least 5 years of program management experience with increasing responsibilities.
  • Current Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician (WEMT) certification.
  • Professional instructor certification in areas such as Wilderness medicine, AMGA SPI/CWI, ACA SWR, or ACA Canoeing/Kayaking.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
  • Experience fostering an inclusive environment for all students.
  • Extensive wilderness leadership experience across all seasons.
  • Significant experience in program design, management, and administration.
  • Strong communication and group facilitation skills.
  • Risk management experience at both field and programmatic levels.
  • High proficiency in various outdoor activities, including climbing, mountaineering, canoeing, skiing, and kayaking.
  • Knowledge of student development and outdoor education theories.
  • Active membership in relevant professional organizations.
