About the Role

The Information Technology Services (ITS) at the University of Southern California is seeking a highly skilled Accounting Financial Manager to join its team. As a key member of ITS Finance, you will collaborate with a diverse and talented team to support the financial needs of various information technology initiatives and contribute to the generation of value for our campus stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise the day-to-day work of accounting assistants or technicians assigned to a financial unit within financial services or in a school, administrative, or auxiliary department.
  • Communicate unit priorities, assign and schedule work based on assessment of work volume and deadlines, authorize overtime, and/or use of temporary staff.
  • Monitor and review work for accuracy and timeliness, identify and correct errors, and assist in problem resolution and make decisions within established authority level.
  • Train staff in unit operating procedures, ensure procedures and policies are documented and updated as changes occur, and communicate changes to staff.
  • Monitor internal financial operations, evaluate procedures and controls for adequacy, and recommend changes or modifications.
  • Collect and format data for special projects and management studies, prepare various financial reports, and plan, schedule, and coordinate internal reviews and audits.
  • Vendor Management – Coordinate with Procurement and Sourcing team suppliers to aggregate vendor contract performance data, develop standard and ad hoc reports to support vendor management performance, and identify and analyze compliance validations, operational oversight, and overall vendor spending.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Two years of experience in accounting or combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
  • Senior or lead bookkeeping/accounting experience with directly related college study
  • Thorough knowledge of established accounting principles, methods, practices, and terminology used in financial/accounting and statistical record-keeping work
  • Ability to train, evaluate, and supervise the work of employees
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and effective communications skills

Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three years of experience in accounting
  • Proficiency in Excel – pivot tables, formulas, charts
  • Knowledge of University financial systems and strong knowledge of computers and accounting applications
  • Knowledge of Workday and other financial systems
