Position Overview: Under general supervision, police officers are responsible for a variety of duties aimed at protecting life and property, enforcing laws, conducting criminal investigations, managing traffic, and preventing crime. Key responsibilities include:

  • Identifying and addressing community issues through collaboration with the Police Department and other agencies.
  • Conducting thorough investigations of incidents such as burglaries, thefts, and accidents.
  • Collecting evidence and providing testimony in legal proceedings.
  • Responding to calls for assistance and enforcing laws.
  • Managing the custody and transport of detainees.

Officers are expected to be available for shifts that may include nights, weekends, and holidays. This role is subject to an 18-month probationary period and is classified as non-exempt under the Los Gatos Police Officers' Association (POA).

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident eligible for citizenship.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
  • At least one of the following:
    • 60 semester or 90 quarter college credits from an accredited institution, or
    • Military veteran with four or more years of service and honorable discharge.
