We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Veterinary Technician II to join our team at the Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital. As a key member of our Avian, Exotic, and Zoological (AEZ) Medicine Unit, you will provide exceptional patient care, instruction, and support to our veterinary students, interns, and residents.
Key Responsibilities- Provide paraprofessional support for the AEZ medicine departments, including performing diagnostic procedures, administering anesthesia, and providing instruction to veterinary students and interns.
- Assist in the care and treatment of AEZ patients, including venipuncture, IV catheterization, fluid administration, and urinary catheterization.
- Monitor anesthesia and patient care, taking measures to prevent problems or complications.
- Maintain and follow established systems for equipment and instrument care, as well as cleanliness and order in the AEZ exam rooms, treatment room, ward, and rounds room.
- Stock treatment rooms, exam rooms, and ward with necessary supplies and maintain inventory of AEZ ward.
- Receive calls from clients requesting information about their pets and refill prescription requests.
- Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in veterinary/animal health technology.
- Two years of experience assisting in animal surgery, administering anesthesia to animals, and/or performing veterinary procedures.
- Registered Veterinary Technician through the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA).
- Ability to collect blood on a variety of species.
- Experience communicating effectively with clients, students, faculty, and multiple constituents.
- Ability to maintain calm and composed under high-stress situations.
- Ability to teach DVM students and interns in the technical aspects, formal labs, and on a patient-demand basis.
