Job Title: Secondary Teacher

Job Summary:
Socorro Consolidated Schools is seeking a qualified Secondary Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching physical education to secondary pupils, utilizing a course of study adopted by the Board of Education and appropriate curriculum publications as guidelines.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach physical education courses to secondary pupils, emphasizing hands-on learning activities and hands-on learning experiences.
  • Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that meet the needs of each pupil, adapting the curriculum to individual needs.
  • Design learning activities that relate content area to the physical world.
  • Establish and maintain a standard of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
  • Evaluate each pupil's progress in content area knowledge and skills.
  • Select and requisition books, instructional aids, and supplies, maintaining required inventory records.
  • Communicate with parents to interpret contemporary methods in teaching physical education and with parents and school counselors to discuss individual pupil progress.
  • Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Integrate the use of educational technology into the instructional program.
  • Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned workday.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Valid New Mexico Public Education Department Secondary Teaching License with endorsement in appropriate content area.
  • At least three years teaching experience in the content area.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
The employee's work involves standing, walking, and sitting. The employee is required to perform physical activities such as twisting, bending, stooping, squatting, and kneeling. The employee is also required to use fine finger dexterity and manual dexterity. The employee is required to reach above shoulders, at shoulder height, and below shoulders. The employee is required to push, pull, lift, and carry objects weighing up to 150 pounds from the floor, chest high, and overhead. The employee is required to work in a variety of environments, including classrooms, hallways, and outdoor areas. The employee is required to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions. The employee is required to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
