The Licensed Pulmonary Function Specialist (LPFS) is responsible for conducting a range of pulmonary diagnostic assessments, which include, but are not limited to, pulmonary function tests, oximetry, FENO assessments, home sleep evaluations, and the administration of durable medical equipment (DME). The LPFS is also tasked with performing routine quality assurance checks on pulmonary function apparatus and maintaining accurate patient records. This role operates independently within the Pulmonary Function laboratory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct various pulmonary diagnostic tests.
  • Perform quality control on testing equipment.
  • Maintain and update patient documentation.
  • Support patient care in the capacity of a Licensed Practice Nurse as required.

Qualifications:

Education and Skills Required:

  1. Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  2. Current licensure as a Licensed Practice Nurse in New York State.
  3. Certification as a Registered or Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist is preferred.
  4. LPN candidates with current NBRC (National Board of Respiratory Care) certification as a Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist or those eligible for such certification will be prioritized.
  5. LPNs not currently eligible for NBRC certification must complete the required 62 credit hours for credentialing within one year of employment from an accredited institution, including coursework in biology, chemistry, and mathematics.
  6. AHA-BLS certification is mandatory within six months of employment, or a current non-AHA-BLS certification will be accepted until the renewal date.
  7. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in Medical Office settings, Pulmonary Function Testing, and DME.
