Academic Mentor for College Students
At the Table is in search of dedicated educators to enhance our dynamic organization, committed to empowering students with a history in foster care by providing essential academic resources.
We connect current and prospective college students who have experienced foster care with 1:1 tutors who also act as mentors and knowledgeable allies in navigating the complexities of the educational landscape. Unlike typical tutoring roles, our positions are designed for long-term engagement: tutors will work with students until their graduation, fostering relationships that enable them to become academic mentors and positive role models.
Tutors will maintain a caseload of up to 16 students, developing strong, collaborative relationships while delivering instruction across various subjects, including Humanities and STEM. They will also assist students in mastering organizational strategies, preparing for tests, and reinforcing foundational skills in any area where support is needed. Additionally, tutors will guide students through the college experience, helping them with course selection, applications, financial aid, and scholarship processes.
We highly encourage candidates whose experiences reflect the diverse backgrounds of our students, including communities of color, working-class backgrounds, and LGBTQ+ communities, to consider this opportunity.
While the majority of our tutoring occurs remotely, candidates should be available for in-person meetings with staff or students as necessary.
