Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Sterile Processing Technician II to join our team at Eastern Connecticut Health Network, Inc. This role is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of sterilization and instrument preparation for our medical staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver and document shift reports to ensure seamless communication among team members.
  • Communicate effectively with department supervisors and other departments as needed.
  • Assist with continuing education and growth within the department, scheduling and documenting knowledge assessments, and developing and conducting in-services based on identified needs.
  • Unload the soil lift and prepare soiled instrumentation for transport to the Off-Site Sterilization Center.
  • Accurately inspect, assemble, and package items for sterilization, handling and inspecting instruments/scopes to prevent damage.
  • Drive the delivery vehicle as needed for deliveries or pick-ups at both hospitals.
  • Correctly scan and distribute sterile, non-sterile items/supplies, demonstrating knowledge of the instrument tracking system and assisting staff with the system.
  • Prepare case carts with supplies utilizing preference/pick lists.
  • Participate in the orientation of new staff, following the training plan and documenting progress.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of safety requirements for all equipment and respond appropriately to potential safety concerns.
  • Utilize critical thinking skills and sound judgment in priority setting and delegations.
Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician I.
  • Certification in Sterile Processing through a nationally accredited central service organization, such as the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or Healthcare & Sterile Processing Association (IAHCSMM).
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license, with a driving record free of any violations and completion of a safe driving educational program upon hire and annually thereafter.
Competencies
  • Advanced and demonstrated knowledge and understanding of sterile processing principles.
  • Good problem-solving techniques.
  • Personal computer skills and experience are desirable but not required.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak clearly using the English language.
