GENERAL JOB OVERVIEW:
The Medical Office Professional certificate is designed to equip students for employment in a medical office environment. This program provides training in essential medical terminology, basic Microsoft computer skills, medical office fundamentals, and SIM chart usage.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Effectively deliver assigned courses.
  • Serve as a professional role model.
  • Support students in meeting course objectives.
  • Assess and report on student performance. Prepare engaging learning activities.
  • Participate in program-related activities and meetings as appropriate. Perform additional related duties as assigned.
  • The individual in this role will be available Monday – Thursday for a 7-week duration in the Spring and Fall semesters.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
  • Exhibit professional role modeling for students, maintaining a professional appearance and a positive demeanor.
  • Stay informed about policies and protocols of the program, college, and clinical agencies. Take responsibility, be punctual, and demonstrate effective problem-solving skills.
  • Assist students in recognizing strengths and areas for improvement. Facilitate learning through discussion, questioning, and guidance.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding patients, students, agencies, and the college.
  • Represent the college/program positively and meet all employment criteria.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position involves working in an office environment. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and engaging in close visual tasks. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motions, talking, and listening.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A degree in a healthcare field or relevant medical office experience.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate all technical skills required of students.
  • Potential exposure to bio-hazardous materials; moveable mechanical components; and fumes, odors, dust, and mists.
  • Completion of Kirkwood's Bloodborne Pathogens training is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Prior teaching experience is advantageous.
