As a Senior Java Engineer, you will engage in the development of a state-of-the-art information exchange framework that will inform public health policy decisions in Minnesota for years to come. MDH is responsible for consolidating and analyzing a wide range of health data from across the state to understand current conditions and anticipate future health requirements. Our information exchange services are vital to these initiatives.

We operate as an AWS cloud-based organization, consistently pursuing the best technologies available. You will work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where innovative ideas are not only welcomed but encouraged. Your projects will involve designing and developing interfaces between MDH's information systems and those of healthcare providers, as well as county, state, and federal agencies. As a MNIT employee, you will have the flexibility to work from home in accordance with MNIT's Telework policy.

Telework Eligibility

  • Employees may perform work from a telework location, but may be required to be present in the office based on business needs.
  • Only candidates residing in Minnesota and neighboring states are eligible for telework.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must clearly demonstrate the following qualifications:

This position requires a minimum of four (4) years of experience in Java programming.

Experience must include:

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, that foster mutual understanding.
  • Customer service abilities that encompass active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.

A master's degree in Information Technology or a related field can substitute for three (3) years of experience, a related bachelor's degree can substitute for two (2) years, and a related associate's degree can substitute for one (1) year.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in developing:
  • Electronic data interchange solutions.
  • Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) solutions.
  • Solutions utilizing delimited text, XML, and JSON.
  • Solutions involving relational databases and SQL.
  • Solutions using Apache Camel or Spring Integration Framework.
  • Experience with Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) integration.
  • Experience with HL7 integration.
