Salary: $95K - $105K DOE
Location: West Columbia, SC
Key Responsibilities:
Safety Management:
- Prioritize safe working practices at all times.
- Adhere to all applicable federal and state safety regulations, as well as company policies.
- Identify and report unsafe conditions; assist in their rectification; utilize equipment and materials appropriately.
- Facilitate MSHA inspections and maintain certification as the primary on-site MSHA instructor.
- Ensure all new miners complete 24 hours of MSHA training prior to commencing work.
- Organize and oversee annual MSHA refresher training sessions.
- Lead behavior-based safety (BBS) initiatives at both plant and mine locations.
- Conduct thorough safety inspections at the mine and plant.
- Develop and implement safety policies that align with corporate objectives.
- Maintain compliance documentation as mandated by company policies and regulations.
- Perform regular inspections to identify and mitigate hazards affecting operational safety.
- Conduct quarterly dust sampling and noise exposure assessments to ensure compliance.
- Design and implement comprehensive safety training programs for personnel.
- Provide training on safe working practices and first aid to employees.
- Investigate incidents and report findings to relevant stakeholders.
- Publish timely hazard alerts related to safety incidents.
- Manage the random drug testing program.
- Process accident reports and manage workers' compensation claims.
- Coordinate annual health assessments for employees.
- Review process changes and conduct Job Hazard Analyses as necessary.
- Order and manage safety supplies.
- Oversee contractor safety management programs.
- Ensure proper management of hazardous chemicals through the company’s online system.
- Maintain up-to-date training records for all employees.
- Track and report safety metrics for plant and mine operations.
Environmental Management:
- Comply with all statutory and regulatory procedures to safeguard the environment.
- Manage air quality systems to ensure compliance with Title V air permits.
- Collaborate with corporate EHS leadership on air permit modifications and renewals.
- Maintain records of unplanned emissions and report to relevant authorities.
- Accompany state and federal inspectors during environmental assessments.
- Hold Method 9 observer certification for emissions compliance.
- Document compliance through a systematic filing process.
- Manage hazardous waste in accordance with regulations, including proper storage and disposal.
- Train personnel on hazardous waste generation and management.
- Ensure adherence to spill prevention protocols and provide necessary training.
- Maintain compliance with radioactive scale permit conditions.
- Conduct groundwater monitoring to support environmental assessments.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; a college degree in Environmental Health or Safety is preferred.
- Minimum of five years of relevant experience in safety management or regulatory reporting.
- Certifications in Method 9 emissions, CPR/First-Aid Instruction, and hazardous waste management are advantageous.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and ERP applications.
