About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mortgage Origination Specialist to join our team at Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union. As a Mortgage Origination Specialist, you will be responsible for originating first mortgages, conducting initial pre-qualification interviews, preparing loan application packages, and communicating policies for extension of credit in accordance with our guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement effective strategies to ensure members have a positive experience with our credit union and our products and services.
  • Process new loan applications and perform loan origination activities, including accurately reading, interpreting, and applying financial and numerical information to the loan file.
  • Utilize consultative phone selling, prospecting, and member service skills to maximize lead pull-through to closing.
  • Cultivate and maintain external referral sources by attending loan closings, networking events, and follow-up calls.
  • Travel throughout our branch network to strengthen relationships and collaborate with assigned branch teams to increase branch referrals and drive mortgage loan growth.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Either 1 year of mortgage origination experience, 2 years of mortgage banking experience, or relevant lending experience in other roles, or a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Accounting, or Finance, or 3 years of analytical finance experience.
  • Nationwide Multistate Licensing System & Registry (NMLS) licensure is highly preferred.
