Position Overview

The Unit Technician plays a vital role in coordinating patient care and managing administrative tasks within the unit. Acting as the primary liaison for the unit, you will assist healthcare professionals and respond to inquiries from patients and their families, ensuring seamless communication and service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Perform essential patient care activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, including hygiene assistance, vital sign monitoring, and basic medical procedures.
  2. Conduct phlebotomy and lab draws as required, ensuring accurate and timely specimen collection.
  3. Maintain patient records by entering and updating information, facilitating efficient data management for the healthcare team.
  4. Support patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring a smooth transition and proper documentation.
  5. Act as a patient advocate, addressing concerns and ensuring that patients' rights and confidentiality are upheld.
  6. Order and manage medical supplies, ensuring that the unit is well-stocked and compliant with safety standards.

Qualifications

Education: Candidates must have completed or possess one of the following:

  • A formal nurse aide course
  • A current certified nurse aide registry
  • A medical assistant course or certificate
  • A patient care technician course or certificate
  • Enrollment in an accredited nursing program with documentation of nursing fundamentals
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing school

Experience: A minimum of one year of experience in a healthcare environment is required. Completion of Parkland's job-specific training program may be considered equivalent to this experience.

Certifications: A current Heartsaver CPR course completion card is required within 90 days of hire.

Skills: Candidates must demonstrate effective communication skills, flexibility in work habits, and a commitment to patient-centered care. Proficiency in computer skills, including data entry and report generation, is essential.
