Position Overview
The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver essential daily care and services to assigned residents, adhering to their individualized care plans and assessments, while following directives from supervisory staff.
Authority Delegation
As a Certified Nursing Assistant, you are entrusted with the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability required to execute your designated tasks effectively.
Core Responsibilities
While the following outlines the essential functions of this position, it is not exhaustive, and additional duties may be assigned as necessary.
Administrative Duties
- Identify residents accurately using wristbands or photo identification prior to administering treatments or serving meals.
- Document all relevant information on flow sheets, notes, and charts clearly and descriptively.
- Utilize only authorized abbreviations established by the facility when recording information.
- Promptly report any changes in residents' conditions to the Nurse Supervisor or Charge Nurse.
- Document any accidents or incidents observed during your shift immediately.
Admission, Transfer, and Discharge Responsibilities
- Prepare the resident's room for their arrival, ensuring all necessary items are in place.
- Welcome residents and assist them to their rooms, introducing them to roommates and staff as appropriate.
- Inventory and label residents' personal belongings as instructed.
- Aid residents in packing their possessions during transfers or discharges.
- Assist with the transfer of residents to new rooms or designated areas.
- Help with loading and unloading residents from vehicles as required.
Personnel Responsibilities
- Execute all assigned tasks in line with established policies and under the guidance of supervisors.
- Follow work assignments and schedules diligently to complete your duties.
- Collaborate with inter-departmental and facility personnel to ensure comprehensive nursing services meet residents' needs.
- Foster a warm, inviting atmosphere and maintain a calm environment throughout your shift.
- Regularly meet with nursing staff to identify and address service improvement areas.
- Report any resident complaints or grievances to the appropriate personnel.
- Notify the facility of any lateness or absences at least two hours before your scheduled shift.
- Report any occupational exposures to hazardous materials to your supervisor.
Personal Care Responsibilities
- Participate in nursing reports at the beginning of your shift.
- Assist residents with daily hygiene tasks, including dental care and bathing.
- Support residents with dressing, grooming, and nail care as needed.
- Ensure residents remain dry and comfortable by changing linens and gowns as necessary.
- Assist with bowel and bladder functions, maintaining records as instructed.
- Help residents prepare for medical tests and appointments.
- Provide mobility assistance, including lifting and positioning residents safely.
- Monitor and report any changes in residents' conditions or needs.
Food Service Responsibilities
- Prepare residents for meals, ensuring they are comfortable and ready.
- Serve meals and assist residents with eating as required.
- Document residents' food and fluid intake, reporting any changes in their eating habits.
- Maintain cleanliness of dining areas and assist with post-meal care.
Safety and Sanitation Responsibilities
- Adhere to safety protocols in all duties performed.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in resident areas and nursing stations.
- Report any hazardous conditions or safety violations immediately.
Qualifications
- Must possess a minimum of an 8th-grade education.
- Must be a State Certified Nursing Assistant in accordance with applicable laws.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English.
- Must demonstrate patience, tact, and a positive attitude while interacting with residents and staff.
- Must be willing to learn and adapt to new nursing practices and principles.
