Job Title: Certified Nursing Assistant

Sunharbor Manor is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Certified Nursing Assistant to join our team. As a Certified Nursing Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to our residents, ensuring their comfort, dignity, and well-being.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide routine daily care and services to residents, including bathing, dressing, and grooming.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living, such as eating, toileting, and transferring.
  • Monitor residents' vital signs, including temperature, pulse, and respirations.
  • Report any changes in residents' condition to the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse.
  • Participate in and receive nursing report upon reporting for duty.
  • Follow established policies concerning exposure to blood/body fluids.
  • Assist residents with daily dental and mouth care, including brushing teeth and cleaning dentures.
  • Assist residents with bath functions, including bed baths, tub or shower.
  • Give backrubs as requested.
  • Assist residents with dressing/undressing as necessary.
  • Assist residents with hair care functions, including combing, brushing, and shampooing.
  • Assist residents with nail care, including clipping, trimming, and cleaning fingers/toenails.
  • Shave male residents daily.
  • Keep female residents' hair clean-shaven if requested.
  • Keep residents dry, including changing gowns, linen, and bedding as needed.
  • Change all bed linens and keep linens tight to avoid wrinkles.
  • Make beds, including occupied and unoccupied beds.
  • Put extra covers on beds as requested.
  • Position bedfast residents in a comfortable position.
  • Assist residents with bowel and bladder functions, including assisting to the bathroom and offering bedpans/urinals.
  • Maintain intake and outtake records as instructed.
  • Keep incontinent residents clean and dry.
  • Check and report bowel movements and character of stools as instructed.
  • Collect specimens as instructed, including urine, sputum, stools, and other bodily fluids.
  • Assist residents in preparing for medical tests, including lab work, X-rays, therapy, dental, and other procedures.
  • Assist residents in preparing for activity and social programs, including visitors, parties, and religious services.
  • Assist in transporting residents to and from appointments, activities, and social programs as necessary.
  • Assist with lifting, turning, moving, positioning, and transporting residents into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, lifts, and other equipment.
  • Assist residents to walk with or without self-help devices as instructed.
  • Perform restorative and rehabilitative procedures as instructed.
  • Change dressings, bandages, binders, and other wound care supplies as instructed.
  • Provide eye and ear care as instructed, including warm/cold compresses, eye/ear instillation, and cleaning eyeglasses/hearing aids.
  • Assist with the application of non-sterile warm/cold compresses.
  • Assist in preparing residents for physical examinations.
  • Weigh and measure residents as instructed.
  • Measure and record temperatures, pulse, and respirations (TPRS) as instructed.
  • Answer resident call bells promptly.
  • Ensure that residents who are unable to call for help are checked frequently.
  • Check each resident routinely to ensure that their personal care needs are being met in accordance with their wishes.
  • Assist with care of the dying resident.
  • Provide post-mortem care as directed.
  • Observe and report the presence of pressure areas and skin breakdowns to prevent decubitus ulcers (bed sores).
  • Report any injuries of an unknown source, including skin tears.
  • Provide daily indwelling catheter care.
  • Provide daily perineal care.
  • Perform non-sterile vaginal irrigation/douches.
  • Assist with the application of slings, elastic bandages, binders, and other equipment.
  • Give tepid sponge baths.
  • Provide daily range of motion exercises and record data as instructed.
  • Turn bedfast residents at least every two hours.
  • Perform special treatments as instructed.
  • Observe disoriented and comatose residents, record, and report data as instructed.
  • Turn all medications found in residents' rooms/possession over to the supervisor/charge nurse.
  • Provide residents with reality orientation as instructed.
  • Watch for and report any change in room temperature, ventilation, lighting, and other environmental factors.
  • Provide nursing ambulation as required and document the same.
Requirements:
  • Must possess a minimum of an 8th-grade education.
  • Must be a State Certified Nursing Assistant in accordance with the laws of the State of New York.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
  • Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.
  • Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
  • Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.
  • Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition.
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
