Job Title: Instrumentation and Control Technician

Join the City of Oxnard's Public Works Department as an Instrumentation and Control Technician. This exciting opportunity will have you working with a team of professionals to maintain and repair complex process control, communication, electrical, electro-pneumatic, and instrumentation equipment at our wastewater treatment plant.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform highly skilled maintenance and repair tasks on wastewater treatment plant equipment, including SCADA systems, lift station telemetry, and telephone/communication systems.
  • Assemble, install, and repair electronic and instrumentation circuits, transformers, switches, control panels, pneumatic and electronic components of telemetry systems.
  • Assist in planning and scheduling preventive maintenance programs, develop and implement emergency situation plans, and make recommendations to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and submit requests for materials and supplies, and maintain instrument laboratory and the care and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot a variety of problems and potential problems with treatment plant equipment, ensuring that work is performed according to plans and specifications.
  • Perform calibration of gas detection systems, chemical tanks, meters, engines, gauges, and lavatory equipment.
  • Service various plant equipment and employee safety equipment, such as self-contained breathing apparatus, and repair medium and high voltage lines, radios, and other plant equipment.
  • Purchase plant supplies and maintain shop supplies.
  • Respond to questions and concerns from the general public, provide information as is appropriate, and resolve complaints.
  • Perform the full array of duties assigned to the Instrumentation Technician class, including maintaining, in proper working order, all plant process control and communication equipment.
  • Perform standby duty on a rotating basis and may be required to work varying hours, overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with the operations group.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid California Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Three (3) years of experience in the corrective and preventive maintenance, installation, and construction of complex process control, communication, electrical, electro-pneumatic, and instrumentation equipment.
  • Two (2) years of journey-level experience in the corrective and preventive maintenance, installation, and construction of complex process control, communication, electrical, electro-pneumatic, and instrumentation equipment.
  • California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Grade I Electrical Instrumentation Technician Certification within eighteen (18) months.
  • Cradlepoint Certified Network Associate Certification is desired.
