Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled FPGA Instrumentation and Control Engineer to join our team at General Atomics and Affiliated Companies. As a key member of our Engineering and Projects team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and fabricating components and systems for Fusion applications, including ITER and DIII-D.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop data acquisition and instrumentation hardware, control software, and industrial control architectures.
  • Program PLC, microcontrollers, FPGA, and PC-based control applications.
  • Develop project documentation, including specifications, diagrams, schematics, test procedures, and IO lists.
  • Maintain control systems, networks, and control panels.
  • Participate in project development with a team of engineers and scientists.
  • Effectively communicate technical solutions for control system challenges.
  • Evaluate and guide electrical, mechanical, and software designs to ensure system-level requirements are met.
  • Troubleshoot complex engineering and computer problems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Progressive engineering experience, with a minimum of four years of experience with a bachelor's degree or two years of experience with a master's degree.
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering and computer science concepts, principles, and theory.
  • Experience with electrical circuit designs, fabrication, assembly, and testing, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and programmable logic controllers.
  • Knowledge of computer programming languages, such as Python, C, IDL, and LabVIEW.
  • Experience with design and analysis tools, such as MatLab, MathCAD, and SPICE.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with FPGA programming and design.
  • Knowledge of microwave modeling using software packages, such as HFSS, CST, and COMSOL.
  • Familiarity with circuits to control RF systems and experience working at frequencies from 1 MHz to over 100 GHz.
  • Experience interfacing with equipment in vacuum, cooling, and temperature-monitoring systems.
