Position Summary:

We are looking for an Environmental Compliance Specialist with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. This role requires the ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively with project teams to oversee hazardous waste management, conduct inspections, manage container shipments, and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements set forth by the Department of Energy and the State of New Mexico.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong self-management skills and the ability to juggle a variety of tasks, including inspections, waste collection, processing of waste containers, and the preparation of detailed documentation for waste shipments. A Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental health, engineering, or a related discipline is preferred but not mandatory. Candidates must successfully pass a background check and hold a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Essential skills include proficiency in MS Office, mechanical aptitude, the ability to perform calculations, effective communication in team settings, and the capacity to represent CTI professionally and ethically.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to Health & Safety protocols.
  • Oversee the collection and management of waste containers, ensuring compliance with hazardous waste regulations and DOT Hazardous Materials regulations, along with managing all associated regulatory documentation.
  • Complete necessary forms and documentation for field surveys and inspections, including field information forms, inspection forms, and chain-of-custody records.
  • Utilize spreadsheets and databases for data input and extraction; manage data, perform calculations, and generate reports based on computer applications.
  • Assist compliance personnel in interpreting data and preparing technical reports.
  • Inspect and maintain equipment related to waste handling.
  • Prepare inspection reports, correspondence, and progress reports.
  • Implement standard operating procedures in field activities and oversee their application by junior staff.
  • Engage with a diverse range of clients while demonstrating excellent customer service skills.
  • Maintain organized and presentable written records.
  • Collaborate with clients and other personnel.
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions and be capable of lifting at least 50 lbs, utilizing equipment to manage containers weighing up to 400 lbs.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • Completion of 40-hour Hazwoper, DOT Hazmat, and Hazardous Waste training is essential.
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work effectively in diverse teams comprising engineers, technicians, and non-technical personnel.
