Position Title: 1st Processing General Labor
Working Hours: 9:45 AM to 6:30 PM
Position Overview:
The role involves executing multiple tasks related to the processing of freshly-slaughtered turkeys, as well as supporting the overall workflow within the department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct inspections of turkeys as they progress along the processing line, checking for any defects such as bruises, scabs, or broken bones.
- Perform necessary trimming of birds, which includes removing undesirable parts and ensuring the overall quality of the product.
- Properly dispose of condemned parts in designated containers or conveyor systems.
- Handle salvageable parts appropriately, ensuring they are placed on the correct conveyor for further processing.
- Assist in hanging back birds or parts on the designated racks as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Familiarity with personal protective equipment (PPE) is essential, including eye protection, hearing protection, and cut-resistant gloves. Training will be provided on the proper use of equipment and tools.
Physical Demands:
The position requires:
- Extended periods of standing (up to 8 hours or more).
- Frequent use of knives and scissors.
- Manual dexterity for gripping and manipulating tools.
- The ability to lift and carry turkeys as required.
Working Environment:
Employees may encounter various conditions, including:
- Damp and warm environments.
- Exposure to loud machinery.
- Dusty conditions and strong odors.
