Responsibilities

The Veterans Health Administration offers a comprehensive total rewards package.

Compensation: Competitive salary, annual performance bonuses, and regular salary increments

The Hematology/Oncology Division within the Department of Medicine seeks a dedicated and skilled hematologist/oncologist. Candidates with a clinical focus in hematology and oncology are encouraged to apply, particularly those with interests in both malignant and benign hematology.

The physician must be board certified in Internal Medicine and board-eligible in Hematology and/or Oncology.

At our facility, we provide a comprehensive array of services for cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Our multidisciplinary team includes experts in various surgical specialties and radiation oncology, ensuring a collaborative approach to patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct clinical assessments, including history taking and physical examinations, and implement timely treatment plans.
  • Manage hematologic and oncologic emergencies.
  • Participate in rounds with residents and fellows as assigned.
  • Provide weekend and holiday coverage in rotation with other team members.
  • Perform necessary procedures related to the diagnosis and management of hematologic and oncologic diseases.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic studies and laboratory tests.
  • Deliver outpatient care and continuity for patients with hematologic and oncologic conditions.
  • Prescribe chemotherapy and other medications within the defined scope of practice.
  • Educate patients on cancer screening and prevention strategies.
  • Maintain communication with referring providers and other specialties for multidisciplinary care.
  • Participate in tumor boards and complete electronic consultations for relevant conditions.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Qualifications

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the basic requirements and any additional qualifications specified in the job announcement.

Basic Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Current, unrestricted medical license.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited program.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience in Hematology/Oncology.
  • Focus on clinical care and research in Hematology.
  • Completion of an accredited residency and fellowship in Hematology/Oncology.
  • Current BLS certification.
Physical Requirements: The role is primarily sedentary but may involve standing, walking, and lifting up to 44 lbs.
