Position Summary:

The Certified Addiction Counselor is tasked with the assessment, evaluation, and treatment of individuals experiencing substance use disorders.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct thorough integrated assessments that encompass both functional and diagnostic elements, establishing the historical context and treatment needs of clients.
  2. Develop tailored treatment plans based on comprehensive assessments for clients enrolled in various treatment programs.
  3. Facilitate both group and individual counseling sessions, ensuring a supportive environment for recovery.
  4. Assist in the formulation of discharge and aftercare plans, connecting clients with necessary resources.
  5. Provide a range of counseling services, including individual, group, or family sessions, as dictated by client needs.
  6. Deliver crisis intervention services when required.
  7. Administer relevant screenings to accurately determine treatment levels and needs.
  8. Maintain communication with both formal and informal support systems for each client.
  9. Regularly evaluate client progress and determine the necessity for advanced care.
  10. Ensure compliance with documentation standards as per state, federal, and agency regulations.
  11. Uphold strict confidentiality protocols.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Comprehensive understanding of mental health and addiction services.
  • Familiarity with the American Society of Addiction Medicine guidelines.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and 42 CFR, Part 2.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and agency policies.
  • Flexibility in scheduling and adaptability to changing demands.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and planning abilities.
  • Capacity to work effectively under pressure and manage personal workload.
  • Proficient in building and maintaining effective relationships with clients.
  • Team-oriented mindset.
  • Proficient computer skills, particularly in MS Office applications.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and current auto insurance may be required.

Education and Experience:

A minimum of an associate degree in social sciences or human services is required. Candidates must meet the certification standards for addiction counselors as per BAPP requirements, with certification recognition obtained prior to performing counseling duties.

Physical Requirements:

This role involves periods of mobility within the office and travel to various locations within the designated coverage area. It also requires time spent sitting at a desk and working on a computer, with the ability to lift up to 15 pounds as necessary.
