Chemical Dependency Counselor

This is a full-time position with the Department of Corrections Behavioral Health team. As a Chemical Dependency Counselor, you will have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of fellow South Dakotans.
About the RoleWe are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual with a passion for serving the public and a high level of effort and commitment towards completing assignments and goals. The ideal candidate will have experience in the delivery of clinical services and knowledge of social, behavioral, psychological, and physical effects of chemical dependency.
Key Responsibilities- Provide addiction counseling services to adult offenders at the Women's Prison in Pierre.
- Screen and assess individuals for behavioral health concerns.
- Develop treatment plans to facilitate effective methods of creating behavior modification and a success plan for recovery.
- Facilitate groups and prepare discharge summaries.
- CAC (Certified Addiction Counselor) or LAC (Licensed Addiction Counselor) credentials from the South Dakota Board of Addiction and Prevention Professionals.
- A bachelor's degree in alcohol and drug abuse studies, counseling, psychology, or a related field.
- Knowledge of individual, group, and family therapy techniques, community resources for the treatment and rehabilitation of chemically dependent clients, criminal thinking patterns, and corrective thinking process.
This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference and offers a competitive salary, full state benefits, and SDRS retirement. The State of South Dakota does not sponsor work visas for new or existing employees. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete an Employment Eligibility Verification, Form I-9.
