Position Overview:

The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) is on the lookout for a dedicated educator to lead its online Intro to Research course aimed at high school students in grades 9-12. This course is designed to familiarize students with the essential steps of conducting scientific research, including formulating research questions, performing literature reviews, collecting and analyzing data, and drafting conclusions. Participants will also gain insights into statistical modeling, scientific writing, and effective presentation techniques.

Job Type:
This is a temporary part-time position for a duration of 10 months. The role offers the flexibility to be performed remotely, with the course primarily structured as asynchronous learning. The expected workload may fluctuate based on student enrollment, typically averaging around 10 hours per week for a group of approximately 20-30 students. The role commences in August, aligning with the start of the course.

  • Employing modern technological tools to enhance student engagement in a virtual classroom.

Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, candidates must possess:

  • A Master's degree in education or a STEM field, coupled with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in secondary education.
  • A comprehensive background in scientific content.
  • A profound understanding of effective communication strategies within a virtual learning environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Working Conditions:
The role allows for remote work, with significant time spent on computer-based tasks. It typically requires effective written and verbal communication, as well as auditory and visual capabilities. Compensation:
This position is classified as part-time and non-exempt, with compensation set at $44.00 per hour. Please note that this role does not include benefits.
