Full-Time: 4-10 hour shifts (Scheduled Monday - Friday)

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts advanced cardiac ultrasound examinations including M-mode, 2-D, Doppler, and Color Flow Doppler using various equipment and methodologies, ensuring precise measurements for accurate interpretation and high-quality results.
  • Recognizes and delineates cardiac irregularities, adjusting the examination scope as necessary, and correlating both invasive and non-invasive cardiac diagnostic results with anatomical and functional cardiac data.
  • Prepares patients for examinations and gathers clinical history, including cardiac-related physical findings and relevant laboratory results, to tailor imaging techniques for comprehensive and diagnostic echocardiograms.
  • Assists in transesophageal echocardiography with cardiologists, performing necessary calculations and ensuring probe sterilization.
  • Communicates clinical findings effectively to relevant staff members.
  • Maintains records and performs routine upkeep of the Echocardiography Lab and its equipment, reporting any malfunctions as needed.
  • Serves as a resource for colleagues, physicians, and students regarding equipment, techniques, and procedures to enhance patient care.
  • Collaborates with supervisors to implement protocols as technology advances, ensuring adherence to echocardiography standards.
  • Works closely with the medical director to develop and maintain quality processes and protocols, assisting with quarterly reviews and ICAEL accreditation compliance.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care, assessing data reflective of the patient's status and interpreting the information needed to meet each patient's specific requirements.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
  • Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS-AE) registration with Adult Echo from ARDMS, or
  • Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) registration from the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), and
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association (AHA) to be obtained within 6 months unless exempted by department leadership.
Education Required:
  • Completion of an accredited or approved Sonography program beyond high school.
Experience Required:
  • Typically requires a minimum of 2 years of experience in cardiovascular sonography, including experience in digital quantification.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
  • In-depth knowledge and ability to apply complex sonographic principles, instrumentation, techniques, and new computer methods for capturing, displaying, and analyzing echocardiographic data.
  • Proficiency in cardiovascular sonography procedures, including transesophageal and congenital echocardiography.
  • Strong understanding of cardiac anatomy and physiology.
  • Excellent interpersonal and patient service skills.
  • Intermediate computer proficiency.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Operates all necessary equipment for the role.
  • Must be able to sit for 50% and stand/walk for 20% of the workday.
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, lifting up to 20 lbs. overhead, and carrying up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
  • Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with assistance.
  • Must frequently push or pull over 100 lbs. and be able to use hands and feet to operate equipment.
  • Functional speech, vision, and hearing are required.
  • Protective clothing (e.g., lead aprons, isolation gowns, protective eyewear) may be necessary.
  • Exposure to mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards is possible.
  • *Any exceptions to the above requirements must be documented through Employee Health.
