Job Summary

Vets Hired is seeking a highly skilled Crime Scene Specialist to join our team. As a Crime Scene Specialist, you will be responsible for collecting and processing evidentiary items, conducting crime scene investigations, and analyzing physical evidence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and process evidentiary items using various chemical and physical development techniques
  • Conduct crime scene investigations, including identifying, collecting, preserving, and processing physical evidence
  • Analyze physical evidence, including latent prints, DNA, and other forensic evidence
  • Prepare and maintain detailed reports and records of crime scenes and evidence collected
  • Testify as an expert witness in court regarding laboratory examination of evidence and crime scene processing
  • Provide training to less experienced staff or law enforcement personnel in crime scene processing and analysis
Requirements
  • Three (3) years of experience equivalent to a Crime Scene Technician at the City of Hayward, combined with extensive ongoing training and development
  • Possession of an Associates degree in criminalistics/forensic science, natural science (biology, biochemistry, or chemistry), or a related field
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Class C California Driver's License
  • Possession of a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified Basic Field Evidence Technician certificate
  • Crime Scene Certification by the International Association of Identification (IAI) is desirable
Working Conditions

The Crime Scene Specialist will work in a fast-paced environment, often under pressure to meet deadlines and collect and process evidence in a timely manner. The position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to maintain confidentiality while processing evidence and cases.
