Position Overview
The University of Southern California is seeking a dedicated Computational Scientist to join our Center for Advanced Research team within Information Technology Services (ITS). This role is pivotal in enhancing our research computing capabilities and delivering exceptional support to faculty and students.

Key Responsibilities
As a Computational Scientist, you will:

  • Collaborate with a diverse group of professionals to tackle intricate information technology challenges.
  • Provide direct outreach and support for research computing tasks, assisting faculty, research staff, and graduate students.
  • Deliver technical assistance for new and ongoing research projects, ensuring the effective utilization of high-performance computing resources.
  • Develop and implement innovative technical solutions while maintaining HPC systems.
  • Conduct training sessions and educational programs to empower the research community in utilizing advanced computing technologies.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or a related field.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in IT, computational science, or high-performance computing.
  • Advanced knowledge of Linux/Unix systems and experience with open-source software in HPC environments.
  • Strong skills in Unix/Linux shell scripting and proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Python, or MATLAB.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and experience in managing multiple projects effectively.

Preferred Qualifications
Additional qualifications that would be advantageous include:

  • A Doctorate in a relevant field.
  • Eight years of experience in information technology or computational science.
  • Experience with container technologies and cloud computing solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
