Role Summary

As a Junior Engineer/Drafter at Smith-Midland, you will develop a comprehensive understanding of the diverse range of precast products offered. The ideal candidate will be tasked with creating and adjusting technical drawings according to specifications and client needs. You will also be responsible for maintaining an organized catalog of drawings, electronic files, and a digital library for our online presence. Additionally, the role involves providing technical assistance for licensed products and associated processes.
  • Generate shop drawings utilizing 2D or 3D drafting and modeling techniques.
  • Produce shop drawings based on architectural and structural blueprints.
  • Prepare detailed production drawings to support manufacturing processes.
  • Possess a solid understanding of production and manufacturing techniques for precast concrete products.
  • Collaborate closely with the Engineering Manager and licensed producers to ensure that drawings are comprehensive and accurate, containing all necessary information for production.
  • Engage with Engineers, Specifiers, and Architects to address technical aspects of Smith-Midland products.
  • Apply best practice standards to enhance project efficiency and completion.
  • Establish initial contracts and project details using Project Management Software.
  • Receive, assess, forward, and monitor the status of submittals.
  • Maintain and update the digital database effectively.
  • Coordinate the resolution of production challenges.
  • Lead the Design & Engineering team to ensure effective communication and coordination.
  • Oversee projects to meet schedules and deliver successful outcomes.
  • Review preliminary sketches, drawings, specifications, and other engineering documents from various stakeholders to ensure alignment with design concepts.
  • Research and evaluate potential new ideas and products as required.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, customer specifications, and company policies.
  • Complete special projects as assigned and undertake additional responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferred) or a relevant technical degree.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Solidworks, or Tekla Structures.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the industry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret sketches, construction, and civil plans.
  • Proficient in reviewing and understanding contract drawings and specifications.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to manage projects effectively and deliver quality results on schedule.
  • Capable of collaborating with customers, managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to resolve issues promptly.
  • Willingness to learn and utilize project management software (e.g., Smartsheet).
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Open to changes aimed at achieving best-in-class performance.
Working Environment

This position involves both office work and occasional site visits to the manufacturing facility.
