Position Overview
The Engineering Operations Manager at Alyeska Resort is crucial in improving both guest and employee satisfaction by ensuring the seamless functioning and upkeep of the resort's facilities. This role assists the Director of Engineering in supervising the maintenance team, managing daily activities, and executing preventative maintenance strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular inspections to evaluate the maintenance and functionality of the resort's physical structures, grounds, and associated systems and equipment.
- Guide teams in daily operations and projects, ensuring timely and high-quality completion of maintenance tasks.
- Oversee Engineering operations in the absence of the Director of Engineering.
- Assist in the daily management of the engineering team, including coordinating contractors and their assigned tasks.
- Support the establishment and upkeep of a comprehensive preventative maintenance program.
- Maintain accurate records of all equipment and ensure thorough documentation.
- Contribute to the development of a cohesive team that meets high-quality standards in task completion.
- Assist with scheduling, payroll, and various administrative responsibilities.
- Ensure an adequate supply of materials and equipment to fulfill daily operational and maintenance needs.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the work area, including inventory management and waste disposal.
- Stay updated on Safety and Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) regulations to ensure compliance.
- Be prepared to respond to emergencies such as fires, equipment failures, or other disasters.
- Assist in creating accurate forecasts and budgets, conducting financial reviews, tracking expenses, and managing fiscal activities.
- Develop preventative maintenance practices and oversee all service contracts.
- Adopt a 'hands-on' and 'lead by example' approach to daily engineering duties and projects as needed.
- Foster collaborative relationships, both internally and externally, to support the achievement of organizational KPIs.
- Implement business plans and budgets that align with the overall market positioning and financial objectives of the organization.
- Adjust financial outcomes regularly to optimize revenues and margins.
- Ensure all assigned tasks are completed with minimal follow-up required regarding timeliness, scope, and quality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Experience: 3-5 years in a progressively senior role with a strong understanding of engineering and maintenance processes.
- Education: Post-secondary education in a related field is advantageous. A 4th or 5th Class Power Engineer Certificate is required for a minimum of 3 years.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in preventative maintenance, energy management, fire safety, and health and safety regulations. Strong knowledge of public construction and building systems, permits, licensing, and codes related to public building and fire safety.
- Tool Proficiency: Skilled in the safe and proper use of all tools, equipment, materials, chemicals, and products relevant to the department.
- Industry Knowledge: Ability to stay informed about the latest developments affecting the safe and effective operation of building facilities.
- Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Teamwork: Recognized as a team player and self-starter with strong organizational capabilities.
- Training and Development: Ability to train, coach, and develop team members in a progressive environment.
- Technical Proficiency: Required computer knowledge.
