Job Summary

William Paterson University is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated professional to fill the position of Assistant Director/Counselor/EOF Admission Coordinator within the division of Student Development in the Office of Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Represent the University at on- and off-campus events, educating the community and educational partners about William Paterson University and the EOF Program.
  • Provide comprehensive individual and group counseling (academic, financial, personal, career, leadership development, etc.) to a caseload of approximately 150 students.
  • Monitor student performance and progress, make referrals to appropriate support units, and develop and maintain linkages with faculty and staff.
  • Develop internal programs tailored to student needs, advocate for the EOF student cohort, and/or provide crisis intervention as needed.
  • Teach the University's Will. Power courses during the fall and spring.
  • Provide administrative assistance to enhance academic support services and develop special projects.
  • Coordinate prospective EOF First-Year students' admission process, which includes interviews, high school visits, open houses, presentations, and review of financial documentation for state eligibility.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with community partners (i.e., guidance counselors, coaches, parents/guardians) to aid in the EOF process.
  • Participate in and coordinate events and programs, including Group Advisement, Registration events, Orientation, and other cohort–focused programs to support the success of undergraduate students.
  • Serve as the lead academic interventionist to mitigate academic concerns and at-risk behaviors and provide strategies for navigating academic transition.
  • Proactive and consistent contact and outreach to prospective students through multiple mediums.
  • Organize EOF admission-related events and programs for school counselors and prospective students.
  • Input, process, and monitor the students' EOF admissions records, updating and maintaining accurate information for departmental reports.
  • Gather assessment and student progress data and conduct relevant research to conduct proactive outreach, acclimation, and retention programs.
  • Develop EOF admissions reports and evaluative data for annual reports.
  • Coordinate the EOF transfer process.
  • Assist with the coordination of the summer program component.
  • Assist with developing programs and workshops for the summer program and participate in other institutional initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with community partners (i.e., guidance counselors, coaches, parents/guardians) to ensure students know the admissions/financial aid deadlines.
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree required.
  • Professional counseling/advising experience in higher education or similar settings (preferably in a multicultural environment with underserved populations).
  • Demonstrated successful retention outcomes and cohort management.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced setting and team environment; and strong interpersonal skills and successful experience working and interacting with diverse populations of students, faculty, and staff is required.
  • Ability to think conceptually, develop and implement policies and procedures independently, and make required administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
  • Demonstrated conceptualization and implementation of cohort-specific retention programs required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication (Spanish language skills a plus) and strong analytical skills are required.
