POSITION TITLE: Educational Support Specialist for Special Needs
FLSA: Non-Exempt
SALARY: $18.10 per hour
WORK DAYS: 190
LOCATION: To be determined
REPORTS TO: Principal


This recruitment effort aims to fill current vacancies and future positions across our various educational facilities.


PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Assist designated instructional staff in supervising and educating students with special needs; perform clerical tasks within the classroom; and support students in addressing specific health care requirements while fostering their daily living and behavioral skills.


REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Educational Level: A minimum of 60 semester hours or 100 quarter hours of accredited college coursework, or a passing score on the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment Test is required. If submitting GACE scores, verification of a high school diploma or GED is also necessary.
  2. Certification/License: Must hold a valid Georgia Paraprofessional Certificate, which includes relevant in-service training.
  3. Experience: No prior experience is required.
  4. Physical Activities: Regular physical activities necessary to fulfill job responsibilities; ability to lift students weighing up to 50 pounds independently; capability to perform a two-person lift for students exceeding 50 pounds.
  5. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Proficient written and verbal communication; instructional strategies that effectively connect curriculum to learners; student management skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Exhibit consistent and punctual attendance.
  2. Assist the classroom teacher in preparing and executing instructional programs in line with established lesson plans.
  3. Support the classroom teacher with record-keeping and data collection tasks.
  4. Engage in school events, field trips, and extracurricular activities as directed by the teacher.
  5. Participate in ongoing professional development training.
  6. Assist with hall supervision and bus loading/unloading as required.
  7. Perform clerical and record-keeping duties (e.g., scheduling, copying) to support the teacher and/or administrator.
  8. Provide assistance to medically fragile students (e.g., tube feeding, toileting, diapering, food preparation, and other delegated medical tasks) as necessary.
  9. Help facilitate the movement of students within the school or to specialized services.
  10. Support instruction, positioning, and therapy as directed by related service personnel.
  11. Contribute to maintaining a clean environment and manage bodily fluids in accordance with universal precautions.
  12. Assist in implementing community-based instruction or skills training in accordance with state guidelines.
  13. Monitor the classroom during the teacher's participation in IEP meetings or other activities requiring the teacher's absence.
  14. Perform additional duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.
