Principal Software Engineer

Job Title: Principal Software Engineer - Satellite Ground System Software
About the Role:
BAE Systems USA is seeking a highly skilled Principal Software Engineer to join our Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capability Unit (SCU) in Boulder, Colorado. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and delivering new capability to the industry through satellite ground system software.
Responsibilities:
- Perform full software life cycle functions including software requirements, architecture, design, code, test, integration, documentation, and support.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment with both internal and external customers to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Mentor junior engineers and lead small teams, including decomposing and assigning tasks, reviewing work products, and tracking and reporting status.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company.
Requirements:
- BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 6 or more years related experience.
- Experience delivering high-reliability software in an agile, team-based environment with a strong DevSecOps CI/CD (Gitlab CI/CD).
- Extensive experience in containerization (Docker/Podman) and container orchestration (Kubernetes, helm, OpenShift, etc.).
- Experience in modern software development in Java, C++, or Python programming.
- Experience in developing software for the following ground software domains: mission planning and scheduling, command and control, flight dynamics, or mission data processing.
- Leadership experience at the technical, team, and/or organizational levels.
Additional Information:
This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
