Position Overview

As the Biosafety Compliance Coordinator for the Commonwealth of Virginia, you will be instrumental in fostering a secure and compliant biological safety framework throughout various research and educational environments. Reporting directly to the Assistant Director, your primary responsibilities will include the formulation, execution, and oversight of biosafety initiatives, alongside providing essential technical training and educational resources.

Essential Qualifications

  • A master's degree in biological sciences, microbiology, or a related discipline, or a blend of education, training, and pertinent professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in adult education, program design, and risk evaluation.
  • In-depth understanding of biosafety standards, regulations, and policies.
  • Strong computer proficiency coupled with exceptional communication skills.
  • Capability to operate autonomously, manage priorities effectively, and engage with a diverse range of individuals.
  • Approval for Security Risk Assessment or eligibility for access to select agents and toxins.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Technical expertise in microbiological methodologies and safety apparatus.
  • Experience in research or clinical laboratory environments, ideally within BSL2/ABSL2 or BSL3/ABSL3 settings.
  • Familiarity with facility management, instructional design, and digital content management.
  • Knowledge of biosafety and biosecurity protocols, along with certifications such as RBP, CBSP, or CIH.
