Job Summary:

The Dean of the College of Humanities and Sciences at Sul Ross State University is responsible for overseeing the academic and administrative activities of the college. Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the activities of departments within the College of Humanities and Sciences
  • Prepare and manage budgets for departments and the administrative office
  • Review and approve class scheduling
  • Approve and certify the fulfillment of degree plans for students
  • Evaluate, revise, or modify academic programs and curricula
  • Coordinate institutional effectiveness programs within the college
  • Implement university rules and regulations
  • Recruit and evaluate personnel
  • Recommend appointment, salary increments, promotion, tenure, and termination of faculty
  • Coordinate and supervise graduate and undergraduate programs, degree requirements, admissions, and advisement
  • Assist with recruiting and retention of students within the college
  • Coordinate university distance learning program logistics

Leadership Opportunities:

  • Expand programs and degree development to address local and regional workforce needs
  • Expand online graduate programs and degree development to take advantage of local and regional market demand
  • Expand online graduate certificate programs to align with workforce needs of the community and the market demand of the region

Working Conditions:

The Dean will work an eight-hour day, forty hours per week, with some early or late hours depending on workload. The Dean will also be responsible for teaching one course each long semester and attending various university, community, and school activities.
