Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Surgical Scrub Technologist to join our team. This role is vital in ensuring the efficiency and safety of surgical procedures by maintaining a sterile environment and anticipating the needs of the surgical team.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain sterility of all surgical instruments and supplies during procedures.
- Assist the circulating nurse and surgical team in upholding a sterile environment.
- Gather necessary surgical supplies and equipment as directed.
- Conduct sponge, needle, and instrument counts in collaboration with the circulating nurse.
- Prepare and gown surgeons and assistants for surgery.
- Ensure accuracy of physician preference cards.
- Handle and retain specimens for pathology, confirming details with the surgeon.
- Transport surgical equipment to designated cleaning areas and assist in the reprocessing of instrument sets.
- Engage effectively with patients and team members, respecting diverse backgrounds.
- Implement Standard Universal Precautions and maintain a safe working environment.
- Participate in infection control measures and emergency preparedness drills.
- Adhere to safety guidelines and equipment care protocols.
- Serve as a resource for other healthcare team members.
- Attend required training sessions and meetings.
- Communicate courteously with all stakeholders while maintaining confidentiality.
- Maintain necessary certifications, such as CPR.
- Align actions with the vision and mission of USPI.
- Comply with all policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED; completion of a Scrub Technician Program is preferred.
- Minimum of two years of experience as a Scrub Tech across various specialties or equivalent education and experience.
- Familiarity with medical terminology related to surgical procedures.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands for various tasks.
- Must be able to lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
- Work environment may involve exposure to chemicals, fumes, and other hazards.
