GENERAL PURPOSE
In a collaborative setting or while working autonomously, this role involves executing a range of tasks related to the upkeep and management of parks, recreational areas, landscapes, and associated facilities.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Reports directly to a Crew Leader.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
No supervisory responsibilities.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Consistent attendance is required, with the capability to operate in an active environment. Efficiently manage tasks from initiation to completion while handling multiple job requests daily. Maintain parks and green spaces through activities such as weed control and lawn mowing. Clean and service court areas. Install, repair, and maintain irrigation systems, including lines and heads. Conduct routine maintenance and inspections of drinking fountains and restrooms. Clean, paint, repair, or replace outdoor furniture and surfaces. Perform minor repairs on open space structures. Conduct regular maintenance on lawn and power equipment. Prepare grounds for planting grass, trees, shrubs, and flowers, ensuring soil health through watering and pest management. Collect and dispose of waste and litter from facilities and grounds. Secure and open facilities as required. Assist in the setup and breakdown of equipment for various events and programs. Install and maintain sports equipment such as goal posts and nets. Aid in the construction of new recreational facilities, including site clearing, grading, drainage, and foundational work. Keep accurate records of completed tasks.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Fulfill all tasks assigned by the supervisor. Perform various cleaning duties and provide backup support for related roles as needed. Assist in the upkeep of swimming pools and splash pads. Participate as a member of various employee committees as designated. Undertake other responsibilities as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Valid Texas Class C Driver's License is required.
- Valid Texas Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred.
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience in park maintenance is preferred.
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience in lawn care, pool maintenance, welding, and general building upkeep is preferred.
Or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge
Familiarity with equipment, materials, and supplies utilized in building and grounds maintenance. Understanding of tools and supplies necessary for minor repairs.
Skills
Basic to intermediate skills in landscaping, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and concrete finishing.
Abilities
Work Coordination: Ability to adhere to daily work routines, either independently or as part of a team. Prioritize tasks effectively to meet established deadlines and avoid redundant efforts. Estimate completion times for work elements and communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
Communication: Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to follow instructions from supervisors or senior maintenance personnel. Maintain positive interactions with the public and foster effective working relationships with other employees and supervisors.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Commercial Driver's License preferred.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Utilizes lawn and landscape equipment and general maintenance tools, including but not limited to tractors, backhoes, mowers, aerators, chainsaws, edgers, wood chippers, pressure washers, pumps, irrigation systems, and various hand and power tools. Also employs swimming pool maintenance equipment such as chlorination systems, pumps, boilers, valves, filtration devices, and gauges. Utilizes janitorial equipment including floor buffers, steam cleaners, carpet cleaners, washers, and vacuums.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands outlined are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role.
