Job Title: Senior Manager, Operations

The New York City School Construction Authority is seeking a highly skilled Senior Manager, Operations to join our team. As a key member of our Construction Management Department, you will play a critical role in overseeing the coordination of project-related activities among architects, engineers, construction management firms, subcontractors, and government agencies.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in managing and directing all aspects of school construction and rehabilitation projects from conception through completion.
  • Recommend strategy and policy to senior management for the implementation of the capital program.
  • Participate in forming Authority procedures for construction from development to completion.
  • Supervise subordinate project management staff and review requests for revised capital funding.
  • Mediate special construction-related problems and make decisions to expedite the completion of the construction process.
  • Approve change orders and notices of direction and grant time extensions to contractors.
  • Correct mistakes and errors in the design and construction processes.
  • Participate in the bid/award process and develop scope and design documents for new capital projects and major renovations/repairs.
  • Attend meetings and briefings with Borough Presidents, United Federation of Teachers representatives, and senior Project Management staff.
  • Negotiate with federal agencies concerning the building of LYFE (child care) Centers.
  • May serve as Chief Project Officer in their absence.
  • Plan, assign, monitor, and evaluate the work performed by assigned staff.
Requirements:
  • Nine years of full-time diverse technical experience in one or several construction or design fields.
  • Four years of experience must have been in managing all phases of construction work of a scale and scope similar to the Authority.
  • Three years must have been in an administrative or managerial capacity or a satisfactory combination of education and experience.
  • Preference may be given to New York State Professional Engineers, Registered Architects, or candidates with knowledge or experience in government safety or construction standards, managing complex personnel and technological issues, and dispute resolution.
