Job Overview

Position Title: Transportation Specialist

Reports to: Transportation and Operations Administrator

Supervises: None

Starting Salary: $17.43 with a potential increase of 5% after a designated period.

Position Objective: To deliver safe, reliable, and family-oriented transportation services. The ideal candidate should possess flexibility in their schedule, particularly during weekdays, with an average commitment of 16 hours per week, occasionally requiring additional hours for special assignments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safe transportation of children and families, prioritizing the well-being of all passengers.
  • Verify that both the driver and passengers utilize appropriate safety restraints.
  • Maintain proper conduct among all passengers during transit.
  • Facilitate transportation for children attending designated programs.
  • Assist in transporting families for various essential activities, including medical appointments and educational meetings, in collaboration with other staff members.
  • Communicate with parents regarding estimated arrival and departure times, while keeping an updated route schedule for potential substitute drivers.
  • Maintain contact with students until they are safely handed over to designated staff members.
  • Manage bus attendance records, update routes, maintain seating charts, and oversee evacuation drills and mileage logs.
  • Report any incidents or damages to the Transportation Administrator promptly.
  • Assist with additional tasks when not engaged in transportation duties, which may include answering calls and supporting classroom staff.
  • Familiarize oneself with and implement educational readiness goals.
  • Participate in relevant training sessions and staff meetings.
  • Report any concerning observations in accordance with child protection policies.
  • Maintain an understanding of performance standards applicable to the organization.

  • Perform other tasks as assigned or requested.
  • Occasional travel to various locations may be required.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification, with annual renewal within the first year of employment.
  • Possession of a minimum Class C License with appropriate endorsements.

Working Environment: The role typically involves favorable working conditions, with exposure to moderate noise levels.

Physical Demands: The position requires regular standing, walking, sitting, and various physical activities. Occasionally, the employee may need to lift or move objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
