Industrial Safety Engineer

About Us:
The Safety & Industrial Hygiene division is dedicated to safeguarding the health and safety of our workforce. This is achieved through thorough hazard evaluations, mitigation strategies, engineering controls, ongoing enhancement initiatives, and adherence to regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate potential workplace hazards in research initiatives and implement measures to minimize personnel exposure and accidents.
- Conduct project assessments focusing on Process Safety Management, hazard evaluation, and mitigation through engineering solutions.
- Enhance the organization's safety programs to ensure comprehensive employee protection.
- Collaborate with a team to execute safety and health initiatives and ensure compliance with regulations.
Daily Tasks:
- Conduct, facilitate, or engage in workplace and project risk assessments to identify, analyze, and mitigate risks.
- Organize and lead training sessions on risk analysis methodologies as necessary.
- Oversee the application of Process Safety Management (PSM) protocols when applicable and collaborate with Program Managers to implement PSM best practices in projects that do not meet PSM criteria.
- Utilize knowledge of chemistry and physics to assess projects, ensuring the mitigation of hazardous conditions and evaluating the compatibility of chemicals used in processes to protect personnel from emissions or exposures.
- Support Incident Investigation teams in analyzing and categorizing safety incidents, as well as assisting in the development of process tools and action plans to address identified Process Safety deficiencies.
- Provide Emergency Response assistance as needed.
- Design and deliver safety training for staff on process safety and OSHA regulations.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in Process Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or Public Health is required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in Process Safety Management, Hazard Analyses, OSHA compliance, and/or Industrial Hygiene.
- At least 3 years of knowledge in chemistry and its implications for processes and potential personnel exposures.
- Minimum of 3 years of strong expertise in chemical and engineering principles and integrated risk assessments covering safety, health, and environmental protection.
- A valid driver's license is mandatory.
Additional Requirements:
The selected applicant will undergo a government security investigation and must meet eligibility criteria for access to classified information. U.S. citizenship is required.
