Position OverviewRole Summary

The Clinical Nurse Specialist is responsible for delivering direct patient care while collaborating with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team. This role involves assessing patient needs, planning and implementing care, and evaluating medical and nursing protocols in alignment with the healthcare facility's standards and philosophy. The Clinical Nurse Specialist demonstrates leadership and a commitment to professional development.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Adhere to the organization's performance standards and policies.
  2. Utilize the nursing process to address the specific needs of patients across all care dimensions: physical, emotional, educational, safety, and discharge planning.
  3. Employ effective decision-making strategies to prioritize patient care and unit issues, addressing them with appropriate measures.
  4. Collaborate and communicate effectively with the healthcare team.
  5. Integrate patient rights and ethical nursing practices into daily operations.
  6. Follow infection control protocols to minimize the risk of infections.
  7. Comply with national patient safety goals.
  8. Delegate tasks to support staff in accordance with nursing regulations.
  9. Uphold the ANA Code of Ethics and Nursing Standards.
  10. Promote and practice within the Professional Nursing Practice Model.
  11. Contribute to the Magnet model advancement.
  12. Engage in performance improvement initiatives.
  13. Complete all competency requirements.
  14. Participate in mandatory training sessions.
  15. Attend staff meetings as required.
  16. Implement cost-effective practices.
  17. Assume Charge Nurse responsibilities as needed.
  18. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

1. Graduate from an accredited nursing program with a valid RN license.
2. BSN is required for new hires.
3. Knowledge of current healthcare trends and practices.
4. One year of acute care experience preferred.
5. BLS certification is mandatory.
6. ACLS certification is required for all RNs, with specific timelines for compliance.
7. PALS certification is necessary for RNs in designated departments.
8. NRP certification is required for RNs in specific units.
9. Oncology care providers must meet certification or continuing education requirements.
10. Completion of de-escalation training is required for Emergency Department nurses.
11. Successful completion of orientation programs is mandatory.
