Custodian I

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Custodian I to join our team at Henrico County Public Schools. As a Custodian I, you will be responsible for performing routine custodial work, including cleaning and maintaining school facilities, equipment, and grounds.

• Schedule and supervise custodial staff to ensure adequate coverage for normal operating hours, special events, and meetings
• Inspect and maintain school facilities, including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and cafeterias
• Operate and maintain custodial equipment, including buffers, burnishers, vacuums, and other cleaning devices
• Perform routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and disinfecting
• Ensure compliance with safety and health regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment
• Collaborate with maintenance staff to address facility maintenance and repair needs
• Perform other duties as assigned by the maintenance supervisor

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• One year of experience in custodial or maintenance work, preferably in a school environment
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, walk, push, pull, climb, stoop, kneel, bend, stand, and perform other physical tasks
• Ability to work at high altitudes using scaffolds, ladders, and other equipment
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

The Custodian I will work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities. The position requires the ability to work in a variety of settings, including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and cafeterias. The Custodian I will be exposed to cleaning chemicals, dust, and other substances that may cause allergic reactions or other health issues.
