Role Overview:

The AS400/iSeries Support Specialist is tasked with delivering high-level technical assistance and management for AS400/iSeries systems. This position encompasses monitoring, maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving the AS400/iSeries environment to guarantee optimal performance, availability, and security. The ideal candidate will have extensive technical knowledge of AS400/iSeries systems, coupled with exceptional problem-solving abilities and the capacity to work autonomously.

System Management:

  • Conduct daily administration and upkeep of AS400/iSeries systems.
  • Oversee and assess system performance, capacity, and availability.
  • Establish and uphold backup and recovery protocols.

Advanced Technical Support:

  • Deliver L3 support for intricate AS400/iSeries challenges, including hardware and software troubleshooting.
  • Manage and troubleshoot HMC LPARed environments.
  • Collaborate with L1 and L2 support teams to address escalated concerns.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members.

System Enhancements:

  • Plan and implement system upgrades, patches, and firmware updates.
  • Ensure all systems are current with the latest security updates and patches.

Security Oversight:

  • Establish and enforce security policies to safeguard AS400/iSeries systems.
  • Conduct regular security assessments and vulnerability evaluations.
  • Respond effectively to security incidents and breaches.

Performance Improvement:

  • Evaluate system performance metrics and implement optimization strategies.
  • Adjust system configurations for peak performance.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of system setups, procedures, and modifications.
  • Generate and present regular reports on system performance, issues, and resolutions.

Disaster Recovery Planning:

  • Develop, test, and sustain disaster recovery strategies.
  • Ensure systems can be swiftly and effectively restored following a disaster.

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of experience in AS400/iSeries system administration and support.
  • Demonstrated success in managing complex AS400/iSeries environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of AS400/iSeries hardware, operating systems, and software.
  • Proficient in RPG, CLP, and COBOL programming languages.
  • Experience with system monitoring and management tools.
  • Strong grasp of network protocols, storage, and virtualization technologies.
  • Familiarity with security best practices and compliance standards.
  • AIX experience is advantageous. Experience with troubleshooting and managing HMC LPARed environments.

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred.
  • IBM Certified System Administrator – Power Systems with IBM i
  • IBM Certified Advanced Technical Expert – Power Systems with IBM i
