Medical Records Specialist

As a key member of our team at St. Elizabeth Healthcare, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our patient registration process. Your primary responsibility will be to obtain and process accurate financial and demographic information from patients and/or their family members, ensuring prompt payment and minimizing denials. You will also be responsible for verifying patient insurance through our online eligibility system and determining the appropriate payer to enter in the account. Additionally, you will be required to complete estimates of charges for outpatient exams and determine financial liability from insurance responses. Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills will be essential in interacting with patients, visitors, physician's office staff, physicians, and other employees, while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to all department policies and procedures. If you have a proven track record of excellent customer service skills, are proficient in navigating computer systems, and possess good typing and data entry skills, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.
Responsibilities:
- Interview patients and/or family members to obtain accurate financial and demographic information
- Verify patient insurance through the online eligibility system
- Determine the appropriate payer to enter in the account
- Complete estimates of charges for outpatient exams
- Determine financial liability from insurance responses
- Collect any amount due from the patient
- Scan all requirement documents and obtain signatures from patients
- Complete all forms required by governmental or commercial payers
- Provide wheelchair assistance to patients/visitors and transport as needed
- Cross-train to other Registration areas to ensure efficient knowledgeable coverage
- Relocate to other locations as needed per patient volumes
- Maintain knowledge level after training by keeping current on procedures
- Responsible for reading posted notices, memos, and emails
- Attend department meetings/huddles
Requirements:
- High School Graduate or Equivalent
- Proven track record of excellent customer service skills
- Ability to navigate through computer systems (Microsoft Office, registration systems, EPIC)
- Good typing skills / data entry skills
- Good interpersonal skills (work with the public)
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Maintain patient confidentiality
