SUBFUNCTION DEFINITION: Responsible for the foundational training and continuous professional growth of Registered Nurses (RNs) focusing on medical triage, risk communication, and care coordination within the Cincinnati Children's Nurse Helpline and associated divisions. This role includes regular evaluation of individual and team performance, adherence to medical triage protocols, and ongoing system enhancements. Develops and implements educational and training sessions based on quality assurance activities. The primary focus is to ensure that nurses possess the necessary skills and training to provide outstanding patient and family experiences and optimal health outcomes.

JOB TITLE: Clinical Education Specialist I or II
DEPARTMENT: DPIC Nurse Helpline
LOCATION: Primarily remote work

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Data-Driven Quality Improvement and Analysis: Collaborates closely with the point of care education council, Education Consultant, and other educators to assess and validate the educational requirements of individuals or groups within the point of care. Implements a structured approach to develop data collection and analysis techniques to identify educational needs. A formal assessment of learning needs is conducted annually for the point of care.
  • Training and Analysis: Oversees all initial training and ongoing certification and competency evaluations. Delivers training or facilitation services to designated audiences on specific topics. Applies knowledge of adult learning principles to effectively prioritize training needs and customize content and delivery to meet audience requirements. Co-sponsors educational initiatives with other organizations. A formal assessment of learning needs is conducted annually.
  • Education Design and Development: Leads the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of educational materials and programs for nursing staff. Takes a leadership role in planning and executing educational initiatives to achieve desired outcomes. Collaborates with other departmental leaders to ensure effective resource management.
  • Consultation and Implementation: Synthesizes information and provides both formal and informal consultation and feedback to influence the execution of learning plans. Enhances the learning capabilities of others by identifying and addressing barriers to education. Establishes alternative learning opportunities at the point of care.
  • Design and Outcomes: Assumes a leadership role in planning, designing, and implementing educational initiatives to achieve expected outcomes at the point of care. Utilizes the ADDIE model to inform educational planning, prescribing various strategies, alternatives, and resources to meet learning objectives. Partners with other leaders at the point of care to demonstrate effective resource management.
  • Evaluation: Designs and ensures a thorough evaluation of educational activities and assesses progress towards achieving outcomes at the point of care level.
  • Professional Development: Maintains a comprehensive depth and breadth of clinical knowledge, skills, and competencies in the point of care setting. Assists in providing educational techniques to enhance learning at the point of care. Regularly evaluates personal practice against professional standards, guidelines, and regulations.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Required:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field AND Master's degree in a related discipline
- Multi-state RN License
- 2 - 5 years of experience in a related job function

Preferred:
- Previous experience and training in continuous quality improvement
- Experience or training in educational theory and curriculum development
- Certification in a relevant field
