Job Summary
The Lactation Consultant I provides clinical care support and education to breastfeeding mothers and their babies. This role requires a strong understanding of lactation and breastfeeding practices, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide consultative support and education to nursing and medical staff on lactation and breastfeeding best practices.
- Develop and implement lactation education programs for new mothers and their families.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure seamless care coordination for breastfeeding mothers and their babies.
- Conduct lactation assessments and provide individualized support to breastfeeding mothers.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest lactation research and best practices to ensure evidence-based care.
Requirements
- 2 years of clinical experience in breastfeeding required.
- Education in teaching and facilitation of learning required.
- Graduate nursing degree required, or college courses in nursing with required licensure/certification.
- International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification required within 1 year of hire.
Work Schedule
This role requires weekend work, including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday shifts. Weekend requirements include working every weekend, and call requirements are as needed.
