About the Role

Sovah Health - Martinsville is seeking a skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality laboratory services to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine laboratory tests in various sections of the laboratory, verifying patient and specimen identification before proceeding.
  • Conduct common testing procedures and report test results accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintain instruments and troubleshoot any issues that may arise.
  • Phone critical values according to established policy.
  • Participate in proficiency testing as assigned by the supervisor and adhere to quality control policies.
  • Follow specimen rejection policies and procedures, as well as troubleshooting procedures to resolve instrumentation, testing, or QC problems.
  • Document remedial actions whenever test systems deviate from policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to the laboratory and hospital QA/PI plans to continually improve processes and designs.
  • Assist with the teaching and training of new employees.
Requirements
  • An Associate's Degree with medical technician training is preferred, but a 50-week US military medical laboratory training course and a minimum of 2 years of experience are also acceptable.
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision are essential.
  • The ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action is required.
Working Conditions

The Medical Laboratory Technician may require extended periods of standing or sitting, with some bending, stooping, or stretching. Lifting and carrying 5-25 pounds may be necessary, as well as full range of motion, including eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. Corrected vision and hearing within normal ranges are required, along with the ability to communicate and interact with others in person and on the phone.

Preferred Qualifications
  • MLT certification (ASCP), AMT, NCA, or other national certification is preferred.
  • 1 year of medical laboratory experience post-training is preferred.
