Job Summary:
Sovah Health - Martinsville is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to perform routine laboratory tests in various sections of the laboratory. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of laboratory procedures and be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities:- Verify patient and specimen identification before performing any procedure.
- Perform common testing procedures and report test results.
- Perform instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Phone Critical Values according to policy.
- Perform proficiency testing as assigned by supervisor and according to policy.
- Perform quality control testing.
- Follow specimen rejection policies and procedures.
- Follow troubleshooting procedures to resolve instrumentation, testing, or QC problems.
- Document remedial actions whenever test systems deviate from policies and procedures.
- Utilize the laboratory and hospital QA/PI plans to continually improve processes and designs.
- Maintain supplies needed for the performance of tests.
- Assist with the teaching and training of new employees.
- Associate's Degree with medical technician training, preferred.
- 50-week US military medical laboratory training course and a minimum of 2 years experience, acceptable.
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
- Typical Physical Demands: These may require extended periods of standing or sitting. Some bending, stooping, or stretching is required. May require lifting and carrying 5-25 pounds. Requires full range of motion including eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal ranges. Requires ability to communicate and interact with others in person and on the phone. Also requires a high degree of mental alertness and the ability to handle a high degree of stress and/or irregular work hours.
- MLT certification (ASCP), AMT, NCA, or other national certification preferred.
- 1 year of medical laboratory experience post-training preferred.
