About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team at Sovah Health - Martinsville. As a PRN Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a vital role in performing routine laboratory tests and ensuring the accuracy of test results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Verify patient and specimen identification before performing any procedure.
  • Perform common testing procedures and report test results.
  • Maintain instruments and troubleshoot any issues that may arise.
  • Phone critical values according to policy.
  • Participate in proficiency testing and quality control measures.
  • Follow specimen rejection policies and procedures.
  • Utilize troubleshooting procedures to resolve instrumentation, testing, or QC problems.
  • Document remedial actions whenever test systems deviate from policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to the laboratory and hospital QA/PI plans to continually improve processes and designs.
  • Assist with the teaching and training of new employees.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree with medical technician training, preferred.
  • 50-week US military medical laboratory training course and a minimum of 2 years experience, acceptable.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Typical physical demands: may require extended periods of standing or sitting, some bending, stooping, or stretching, and lifting and carrying 5-25 pounds.
