Analytical Chemist

Job Title: Analytical Chemist

We are seeking a highly skilled Analytical Chemist to contribute to the success of our research initiatives at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. This position will be based in the Analytical Chemistry Research Laboratory, where you will work closely with our team to develop and validate custom analytical methods using laboratory instrumentation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and validate analytical methods for various clients, including principal investigators, project directors, and research staff.
• Perform elemental and trace organic analyses using ICP-MS and LC-MS/MS in various sample matrices.
• Maintain and support laboratory instrumentation, including calibration and documentation.
• Manage laboratory financials, including purchasing supplies and coordinating project pricing.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience with LC-MS/MS and/or ICP-MS operations.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot and solve complex problems.
• Proficient in safely handling and disposing of hazardous chemicals.
• Experience in data management and redundant backups.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree or higher in Chemistry or a related field.
• 5 or more years of hands-on experience with LC-MS/MS.
• 5 or more years of hands-on experience with ICP-MS.
• Experience with method development and validation.
• Experience with Liquid/Liquid extraction, solid phase extraction, and microwave acid digestion sample preparation techniques.
• Experience with development and revision of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Familiarity with regulatory guidelines and compliance requirements.
