Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Analytical Chemist to join our team at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. This position will work in the Analytical Chemistry Research Laboratory service center with a primary focus on pharmacology and toxicology.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate the Vet Med Analytical Research Laboratory with minimal supervision, working independently and prioritizing safety.
- Develop and validate custom analytical methods using laboratory instrumentation based on client needs, with a high degree of attention to detail.
- Perform elemental and trace organic analyses using ICP-MS and LC-MS/MS in various sample matrices, analyzing, documenting, and organizing resulting data for clients.
- Maintain and support laboratory equipment, including calibration, documentation, and management of service contracts to ensure high-quality data output.
- Manage laboratory financials, including purchasing supplies, coordinating project pricing, and generating invoices for clients.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience with LC-MS/MS and/or ICP-MS operations, with supplemental training available as needed.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and solve complex problems.
- Proficient in safely handling and disposing of hazardous chemicals, with experience in data management and redundant backups.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with effective communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
